You are a true kindred spirit. I too have been writing on this important point of ‘care’ in education, for a long time.

When we look back on our schooling, the teacher we remember and learned the most from was not necessarily the most knowledgeable on their subject. They were however the one with whom we felt ‘seen’, the one who we knew really believed in us and the one we knew ‘cared.’

Many decades on, I continue to see this in the results and lives of the clients who attend my English language courses.

I often tell them, “You will always be able to find a better teacher than me, but you will not find one who cares more about you than I do.”

They are absolutely an act of resistance! Thank you for these words and reflections. As a mother learning about these space and dreaming of creating one, I agree that this is liberation work 💚
